High Level Model Answers for questions 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the AQA Language Paper 2 June 2024 paper which involved two non-fiction texts on the topic of medical care. For each answer I have included two advanced model responses. Students read each response and make notes at the bottom of each sheet explaining what they notice about the differences between the responses and debate which would achieve higher marks. I have not included the extracts or the questions themselves for copyright reasons. To obtain these you would need to go on the AQA website.

A high-level and thorough response exploring how Golding presents ideas about leadership in Lord of the Flies. It has been deliberately written to meet the criteria for A01, A02 and A03.

A grade 9 model answer focusing on the character of Juliet. The model answer starts with a thesis statement. It moves on to analyse the youthful, idealistic nature of Romeo’s feelings for Romeo early in the play. The second half of the essay moves on to explore the growing maturity of Juliet’s feelings later in the play. The word count for the response is 1014 words. Also includes revision cards for critical perspectives into Romeo’s character to really help push for that grade 9 in A03.

The inclusion of judicious quotations lead on to perceptive comments about Golding’s authorial methods which leads to discussion of authorial message.
